Reward

Some of the most beautiful places are the hardest to reach. I find this to be true both on a motorcycle (or on foot) and in life.

Physically, reaching any breathtaking view requires following an uphill tradjectory. You have to gain elevation to get that bird’s eye perspective and even small hills present a challenge. You have to constantly push and climb to make forward progress. As you make your way up the mountain, you start to get a glimpse of what you’re working towards. The plan becomes going higher and further, sometimes as far up as possible.

– When I can, I stop several times to take a peek at my surroundings before I get to where I’m going. That little teaser always motivates me to keep moving.

When you finally reach the summit and get the chance to take it all in, the struggle you endured makes it that much sweeter. The effort is well worth the reward. The hard work is part of what makes it so sublime.

In life, the same principal holds true. When we set a goal for ourselves, we are signing up for an uphill battle. The top might seem unattainable at first, but taking those first steps is so important. Every time we make progress, we should be taking a look around to see how far we’ve come, and to get a taste of what the top might look like. Doing so can absolutely motivate us to keep going as we get closer to reaching our goals.

Whether it be saving up for your first home, planning a dream vacation, preparing a presenstation at work, writing a book, fundraising for a cause close to your heart, practicing for a tryout or audition, organizing a community project, coordinating a family gathering, or anything else you challenge yourself to achieve, just remember that you are headed towards something beautiful even if you can’t quite see it yet. The view on the way up only gets better, I guarantee it. It won’t be easy but it will be worth it.

When you choose to take a path that presents challenges, it will force you to become better, stronger, smarter, and more confident. It will infuse the experience into your soul until it is part of you, just like the blood running through your veins. If you’ve ever wondered how to “build character,” well, consider this as a coverpage to the blueprint. It has to be hard or else it won’t mold you and change you on the way there, and the reward will not be nearly as sweet, if at all. Fight to reach the top, you’ll be able to open your eyes to a new, breathtakingly beautiful view – both of the world and of yourself.

Then, because the world is always changing, the next mountain, the next vista, the next challenge will call to you like you were born for it. And you will answer that call.
