I received an email from a great friend (personal and professional) on Monday morning, explaining that he was going to jail on Thursday.  If I had never heard about Jerry’s Kids and the Muscular Dystrophy Association “jailtime” fundraisers, I would have bee quite alarmed. Ax is the director of the Idaho Star Motorcycle Safety Program, so I could only imagine the heart attacks that ensued when this email first went out. It made me giggle just a little bit. A doctor I know did the same fundraiser a few years ago and raised quite a stir, so I was more than excited to see another motorcyclist doing something BIG for charity.  I’ve copied and pasted the email below, so you can see what this jailbreak thing is all about.  This is a great local fundraising effort with a well-known national charity. If you have a heart for children with MDA and want to help, follow the link in Ax’s email to help him get out of jail!

I wish Ax the best of luck during his little “stint” in the slammer.  I encourage him to wear clean underwear on Thursday and put his normal friendly demeanor on HOLD for the time being…  you never know what kind of “friends” you’d be making in there.  Better safe than sorry, right Ax?  Haha  Thank you for being who you are and doing what you’re doing.  I applaud you and your efforts… you’re surely making a difference!

Making the world a “briter” place, one ride… er… RIDER at a time!

Hey folks – these are my final 3 days of freedom!

This Thursday they are coming to take me to jail…that’s right, I’m going behind bars to help Jerry’s Kids and MDA. To be released, I have to raise bail and I need your help!  Some of you have already made a pledge or a donation – thanks so much!

Feel free to forward this email to folks you know that might want to help fight this disease.

Here’s just a few of the things that those donations do:

$30 – Flu shot
$74
– One minute of research
$150
– One therapy consultation
$300
– Professional fees for a diagnostic workup
$800
– 1 week at MDA summer camp for a child

**Corporate sponsorship opportunities are available at $800 and up**

All you have to do is click the link here https://www.joinmda.org/boisetelu2011/ax to make a secure, online, tax deductible donation by August 11th. Your donation will help families living in our community and help guarantee me an early release (or help to keep me IN jail if you so choose!).

Thanks in advance for your help. Don’t hesitate to call or email me with any questions.

-Ax

The Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) is an American organization which combats muscular dystrophy and diseases of the nervous system and muscular system in general by funding research, providing medical and community services, and educating health professionals and the general public. The organisation was founded in 1950 as the Muscular Dystrophy Associations of America, renamed to its present name in the 1970s. Adults and Children who are assisted by the MDA are called “Jerry’s Kids”.

Every summer, for one week, hundreds of children that have been diagnosed with Muscular Dystrophy are able to attend a camp designated for only them. There is a one counselor to one camper ratio and the entire week the children, ages 6-17, are paired with an adult volunteer. They get to participate in fun activities and games and stay overnight from Sunday to Saturday. The camps are set up regionally and are different weeks throughout the months of June and July. The entire camp staff are volunteer members and are required to interview and apply with good recommendations. The cost of the camp for the campers, the children diagnosed with Muscular Dystrophy, is covered by the many fundraisers the MDA organization do each year.
